I remember eating bowls of pasta before high school football games because it would give me “energy.”
That’s because our bodies convert all those carbs into glucose, which is a preferred energy source of most exercise. But my love for pasta did not come from sports, it came from my Italian heritage. Growing up, I ate at least one pasta dish – lasagna, spaghetti, penne, etc. – per week.
Pasta is just so convenient to make: boil water, add pasta, take out and cool off.
As a young couple, my wife and I continued the tradition of weekly pasta dishes. So many times, I ordered a large pasta meal at an Italian restaurant. And what about bread? I loved dipping bread in marinara sauce.
Each serving size of pasta includes approximately 35-40 grams of net carbs. I’m not saying pasta is bad for you. I think it’s fine in moderation. But for me, because of my diet, I try to stay away from pasta. I do miss it though.
To date, I haven’t found any viable low-carb alternatives.
If you know of any, then please message me via my Facebook page. I’ll record myself trying your suggestions and post the videos on social media. Buon appetito!
